Loudon, J.P. Montoya, and Rain.

Written by paul on June 30th, 2008 | 0 Comments

As a fan of any sport you learn to take the good with the bad. This last weekend was one of the bad. Loudon is one of my least favorite tracks. It is a small track that to me lacks a lot of the things that even the cookie cutters have. The racing is not that good, they accelerate through the straightaways and then coast through the corners and then gun it down the backstretch. Passing is interesting but nothing like a speedway or a short track. I know some folks will disagree with me but I just don’t like that track.

Here Comes the Silly Season

Written by Andy on June 25th, 2008 | 0 Comments

Alright already!!! It’s way too early to speculate about where any of the drivers that have expiring contracts are going to go, but they are starting the rumors rolling pretty early this year. I want to just focus on the three guys that are more than likely going to make a move: Ryan Newman, Martin Truex, Jr., and Mark Martin.

Mears out at Hendrick, Martin In?

Written by paul on June 23rd, 2008 | 0 Comments

We broke the story on From the Hauler to the Track last night that Mark Martin will be replacing Casey Mears in the #5 car next year. I think we all agreed that Casey needs to get out of that car, he has been underwhelming to say the least. The fact that they are replacing him with the ageless Martin leaves me scratching my head. He is a good driver and a good guy but I don’t understand this move. If it turns out to be a rent a driver for 1 season and giving him his last hurrah (again) that might make a little more sense.

Review: EA Sports NASCAR 09 for XBOX 360

Written by Andy on June 19th, 2008 | 2 Comments

For those of you who don’t know, I am a total geek when it comes to sports video games. I absolutely love the day that the newest release comes out. I mark the day on the calendar and celebrate like a 10 year old kid on Christmas every time the day arrives. June 12th was the release day for the newest edition to the EA Sports franchise’s, NASCAR 09.

Looks Like Somebody Talked Some Sense Into the Kid.

Kyle Busch is not my favorite driver by no stretch. He is a Gibbs river though and as I die-hard JGR fan what’s good for the coach is good for me. So I have been biting the bullet and rooting for Kyle to succeed in the 18 car that has been struggling for so long. He has righted the ship and got some wins and is leading in the Sprint Cup points chase. As elequently as my brother, Andy, has stated in his blogs and on the show he is not a fan of his either. His is definately not a fan of him trying to win every race in every series on every weekend. Well his wish has come true. Kyle is abandoning his quest to win the Sprint Cup and Natinwide series championships.

Haas CNC Appeals Penalties - DENIED!!!!

Written by paul on June 10th, 2008 | 0 Comments

In an earlier post as well as episode 12 of From the Hauler to the Track, I stated that I thought the penalty was too severe. Well, so did the Haas CNC guys. The NASCAR Commission today says, not to my surprise, that they believe it is fair. According to the article Haas CNC did not appeal the rules infraction but the severity of the penalty. The commission unanimously decided that “the infractions resulted from what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to circumvent the inspection process. Accordingly, the penalties that were issued are warranted.”

Another design flaw with the COT?

Written by Andy on June 10th, 2008 | 2 Comments

Watching the post race interviews after the Pocono race this weekend, I noticed how fatigued the drivers all appeared to be. Say for the exception of Kasey Kahne who won the race, all the drivers looked to be suffering from heat exhaustion. Earlier during the week of practice I heard complaints from drivers that even though the COT has more room for the driver to move around, it also has less airflow for cooling the drivers. Jeff Burton, noted for his quick criticisms of NASCAR, claimed that his car was the hottest he’s every driven.

Seriously - Kyle Busch?

Written by Andy on June 7th, 2008 | 1 Comment

I’m sure that I’m not the only one out there that can’t stand Kyle Busch. And I’m sure we all wish that the term “Busch-whacker” would make a comeback by somebody punching the prick square in the nose. But now what is he really trying to prove with this weekends antics? He’s going to log over 4000 miles in a plane by jumping around the country to drive in all three of the NASCAR series. Trucks in Texas, Nationwide in Nashville, and Sprint Cup in Pocono.

In Case You Missed It - Elliot Sadler Takes Out Tony Again

Written by paul on June 4th, 2008 | 4 Comments

Having been mulling it over for a few days now I have gotten over the pain of the crash on Sunday. I am looking forward to getting back on the track and see what happens. The unpredictable things play as much a part in winning the Sprint Cup as any adjustment that you can make. Have a look at the wreck and tell me what you can figure out:

Tony Needs the Success of the Prelude to be a Prelude to Tony’s Success

Written by paul on June 3rd, 2008 | 1 Comment

I have calmed down a little since the last 2 races have left a very bitter taste in my mouth. Tony had a race in hand slip away and then had any chance of a good finish taken away from him in a big, early wreck at Dover. So I am a bit upset.
