Cracking Down on the Cheaters or Beating Down the Little Guys?

Written by paul on May 30th, 2008 | 0 Comments

NASCAR officials have decided that it would be good for the sport if they were to inflict some of the hardest punishments on a team that can barely withstand it. Haas-CNC Racing has been hit right between the eyes with a debilitating amount of penalties after both the 66 and the 70 were found, according to NASCAR.com, guilty of “actions detrimental to stock car racing” and “wing mounting locations were not as specified by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Rule Book”. In my opinion, and strictly my opinion, this is crap. What actions were detrimental to Stock Car Racing?

Get Your Back Side In Line

Written by paul on May 23rd, 2008 | 0 Comments

It finally started today. The thing that bothers me the most about NASCAR, they have started to tweek the rule mid season. Good or bad changes, I hate it when they try to get everybody in line. In this case quite literally. The issue is the yaw in the rear tires that make the cars handle better in the corner but look just weird in the straightaways.

The All Star Challenge: Not Bad

Written by paul on May 20th, 2008 | 1 Comment

I went into the All-Star Race weekend with the idea that I would be somewhat interested in the race and just kinda watch the spectacle of it all. And that is pretty much what happened. We got a lot of interesting insights from the drivers and the commentators and anybody else who wanted to join in. The burn-out contest, not that bad. It needed more drivers but it was good if you like watching rubber melt and tires get worn down to the cords, which I do. I was looking for more individual performances but what we got was ok. The racing was clean and exciting at times. The change up from a standard milage race to a heat based race is always good. The thing that stood out for me was the yellow walls at Lowe’s. They are ugly. I heard Michael Waltrip and Greg Biffle on “This Week in Nascar” on Speed last night and they said that they liked it. Are you kidding. It is awful. I couldn’t help bu tnotice how the cars were overshadowed by the color on the track walls. Please, change it back to white ASAP.

Darlington Night Race: Good and Bad

Written by paul on May 12th, 2008 | 0 Comments

Saturday night was one of the most anticipated nights of the year so far. A night race, at Darlington, new surface, new tires, and very high speeds during testing. It did not disappoint, for the most part. I enjoyed it from an entertainment perspective. The cars looked good, ran fast, very long stretches without cautions, and a lot of insight on what was going on. The TV broadcast crew did a good job.

NASCAR Fan Rule #1 - WE LOVE TO HATE!!

Written by paul on May 6th, 2008 | 0 Comments

With one of the most dramatic ends to a race in quiet a while, the Jr. nation has shown it’s disdain for any and all that get in Jr’s way. I have and always will hate the nation of Jr love. They are similar to Yankees fans. Most are posers that root for what is popular. They continue to show the true redneck nature of the sport by throwing stuff on the track and flippin’ people of. All in all, the aftermath of the Richmond race shows all of us what makes the sport great. The fans love to hate someone. I get fired up at the Jr. lovers, they now have a focus of angst, Kyle Busch, never mind the fact that he isn’t that good.

Intersting Developments in the Truck Series

Written by paul on May 1st, 2008 | 0 Comments

Having been semi-secluded in my quest for knowledge (Catia off-site training and studying for final exams next week), I have occasionally glanced at sports news as well as listening to it on the radio. Given that NASCAR is not always a topic of discussion during drive time sports talk around here, I caught a few minutes of NASCAR Now on ESPN while I was crawling into bed last night. To my amazement, the lead story made me sit up and pay attention. Randy Moss, yes the Patriots wide reciever, is starting a Craftsman Truck Series team. I instantly thought of two things.
