Martinsville Wrap-Up
Written by paul on March 31st, 2008 | 0 CommentsAfter the long week off the NASCAR folks were back at work. It was a cold weekend of racing. Both Saturday’s truck race and Sunday’s Sprint Cup race were run under grey and cold conditions. Saturday, the trucks had a few interesting story lines: Continue reading...
Thinking Things Over
Written by paul on March 26th, 2008 | 0 CommentsDuring the week off this last week I couldn’t help but ponder some of the things that I think NASCAR is doing right and wrong. I am by no means an expert so this is strictly opinion. Continue reading...
Bristol Buzz
Written by paul on March 17th, 2008 | 0 CommentsThe outcome of the race was not to my liking, but having the old Bristol come back to life was great. The spins, the cars breaking, and the bumbing and banging reminds me of races in the past. The tracks new configuration seems to be getting figured out. They were racing a bit more aggressive than last year when they were trying ti figure it out. Upon review, since I missed the live broadcast due to family fun day during spring break, DW should have stepped out of the booth and just let somebody else fill in. He sounded terrible. A chat room for him would have been much better. Watching Ned Jarrett wave the green flag for DJ’s last points race was pretty special. I think Ned’s health issues have something to do with the timing of Dale’s retirement. I think this gives Dale the flexibility he has earned to be with his dad. Continue reading...
The Back Lady Gets a Face Lift and a New Dress, and Now She’s Faster
Written by paul on March 14th, 2008 | 1 CommentOk, I think we are all thoroughly beaten down by the tire talk since last weekend. How about talking about the fun stuff. Darlington Raceway, aka “The Black Lady” got paved over the off season andthis week was the first time that a few Sprint cup drivers got to do some serious testing (although it was a tire test, we will ignore that part for now). Well, guess what they found, some speed. Continue reading...
The Drivers Do Know What They Are Talking About
Written by paul on March 12th, 2008 | 0 CommentsOne of the most respected drivers in NASCAR has stepped up and backed the position that Tony Stewart and others voiced since Sunday. Dale Jarrett has turned the rant into a legitimate complaint. Continue reading...
The Good(year) Ol’ Boys Are At It Again
Written by paul on March 11th, 2008 | 1 CommentNASCAR has been trying really hard to fight off its redneck, gearhead, beer swillin’ southern reputation for years. So after the first win by a foriegn car manufacturer since 1954 you would think that the international flavor and cohesiveness that other world class motor sports have would be celebrated. Continue reading...
Ah, Yes! That New Car Smell in Victory Lane!
Written by paul on March 10th, 2008 | 1 CommentFINALLY!!!! A Toyota has won in NASCAR Sprint Cup! I have to give full disclosure on this, I am a Joe Gibbs and Tony Stewart homer. I have rooting fot the 20, 18, and most recently the 11 cars since I started watching. I am so happy for the coach. Their decisions this past off season are beginning to pay off. First, the hiring of Kyle Busch was a stroke of genius. This kid has got more talent than his big brother and drives just like Tony and Denny. These leads to continuity within the organization. 3 teams, 3 similar drivers and style, and a manufacturer who wants to win adds up to this. Continue reading...
